What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are biocompatible, titanium posts that look similar to screws. Placed within the jawbone, they fuse with the surrounding tissues so that they can support the custom restorations that are placed on top. Offering continuous stimulation to the jawbone, they work just like regular tooth roots, keeping facial structures from sagging and nearby healthy teeth from shifting out of alignment.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

As the premier form of tooth replacement, these uniquely made prosthetics are enjoyed by millions of people in the United States. Although no two cases are alike, the same process must be completed to ensure long-lasting, successful results. These steps include:

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation – You will meet with Dr. Partovi to discuss how you can expect to move forward with dental implants. We’ll examine your oral and overall health as well as your jawbone density to determine if you need preliminary treatments first.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – We will refer you to a local implant dentist in the area who will perform the oral surgery required for dental implants. After receiving local anesthesia, each implant will be placed and positioned in the appropriate location for maximum support.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – You will spend the next 4-6 months recovering and allowing your implants to fuse with the jawbone through a process known as osseointegration. When complete, you will receive your custom metal abutments, which will help to hold your restoration in place.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – You will complete the process when you receive your dental crown, bridge, or denture. Depending on how many teeth you are missing, we will attach the appropriate type of restoration to your new implants.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Each year, more than 500,000 dental implants are put into place. Not only can they help to save you money in the long run by avoiding continuous purchases of denture adhesive, but their lifespan can extend to 30+ years, which is much longer than a traditional dental bridge or denture. Dental implants also make it possible to eat the foods you love, ensure better oral health and hygiene, and boost confidence so that it positively impacts your personal and professional life.
